A government team led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, have visited the families affected by the continuous heavy rainfall recorded over the weekend.

Professor Prasad and his team had the opportunity to meet with the affected families and also assess the situation at hand.

They were provided with vital information about the events that occurred which will allow the relevant ministries and authorities to ascertain the assistance needed for those affected.

Also travelling with the Deputy Prime Minister were the Permanent Secretary for Disaster Management, Isoa Talemaibua, and the Commissioner Central Josefo Navuku.

Two evacuation centres were opened in Vatuwaqa on Friday afternoon to accommodate families in Wailea that were affected by flash flooding.

The families returned to their homes on Sunday morning as flood waters receded.

A landslide also occurred at Kula Street in Samabula.
