The fourth cane payment of $7.11 per tonne will be done on Monday bringing the total payment for 2022 to $85.26.

The Sugar Industry Tribunal says the net share of the sugarcane growers cane proceeds received and balance receivable as of 30th April 2023 is $139,748,173 which is equivalent to $85.26 per tonne of cane.

The tribunal says this is happening for the first time since the introduction of the guaranteed price of $85 per tonne.

It adds in the previous three seasons, growers were shortchanged by over $13 million when they did not get the guaranteed price.

One more payment is left to be paid in October.
