A former Fiji Revenue and Customs Service officer who raped an attache in an office in the Western Division in December 2015 has been sentenced to 10 years and 11 months imprisonment by Lautoka High Court Judge, Justice Sunil Sharma.

Amitesh Vikash Chand was found guilty of one count each of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault.

While sentencing Chand, Justice Sharma says the victim had just commenced her employment and Chand who was a senior officer overpowered and sexually abused her.

Justice Sharma says there is some degree of planning by Chand after two other officers had left the office and Chand was asking the victim when the taxpayers would be leaving the office.

The Judge adds that there was some desperation by Chand to be left alone with the victim.

It was heard in court that the victim has been emotionally and psychologically affected and as a result she lost concentration at work and was emotionally drained.

A non parole period of 9 years has been set.
