A trough of low pressure lies over the eastern parts of the country which can bring localised heavy rain and lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
People can expect heavy rain and a few thunderstorms over Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra-Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
The Nadi Weather Office also confirms a strong wind alert is now in force for the land areas of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and Taveuni and nearby smaller islands.
The Weather Office says a moist northeasterly wind flow is prevailing over the country.
