As Dhanteras, the first day of Diwali begins tomorrow, Fijians across the country are making final preparations for the Festival of Lights, and from festive shopping to heartfelt reflections, many are taking the opportunity to spread positivity and remind others of the true meaning of Diwali.
Sarun Gita Devi, who is in Fiji after four years, shared that she’s missing the excitement of being with her entire family.
She is encouraging everyone to make the most of their time with loved ones during Diwali.
Sanjeshni Lata from Cunningham, is preparing for an extra special Diwali this year with a new addition to the family, a one-month-old baby.
She says the preparations are going well and she has made a lot of sweets but is in the city just for some last minute shopping.
Kelera Muavesi Latianara from Delainavesi says Diwali is a celebration of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
She says it is a time to come together, and she is planning to visit her neighbours, share sweets, and spread good vibes for this year’s festival.
Meanwhile, Parma from Nadi says he is looking forward to celebrating with his family and friends.
He also urged people to be cautious when lighting firecrackers due to the dry weather and increase fire risk.
Sunil Prasad, also from Nadi, hopes the celebrations promote unity, safety, and freedom for all.
As lights go up across homes and streets, Diwali in Fiji is shaping up to be a time of joy, togetherness, and reflection.
Diwali will be celebrated next Tuesday.
