Fiji has endorsed the Bali Memorandum of Understanding reaffirming the country’s dedication and assistance in tackling the issues arising from misinformation, mal-information and disinformation through social media platforms.

While formally endorsing the MOU on the margins of the 18th Asia Media Summit in Bali, Assistant Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister Sakiusa Tubuna says this collaboration arrives at an opportune time, considering Fiji's ongoing challenges relating to misinformation and the spread of fake news.

He says Fiji being a small island developing state lacks the necessary resources and capacity to address these challenges on its own.

Tubuna adds therefore, establishing strategic partnerships plays a vital role in effectively addressing issues that have significant and wide-ranging consequences.

The signatories of the MOU also included Dr. Khieu Kanharith the Minister of Information for the Kingdom of Cambodia, Maung Maung Ohn Union the Minister for Information for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Samoan Minister of Communication, Information and Technology Toelupe Poumulinuku Onesemo, Bangladeshi Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Indonesian, President Director of Televisi Republik Iman Brotoseno, Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development Vice President Rizal Giovanni Aportadera Jr and AIBD CEO Philomena Gnanapragasam.
