The Fiji Women’s Basketball side opened their Pacific Games campaign with an impressive 82-43 win over the host Solomon Islands yesterday.

Fiji took control of the game from the first quarter till the last as they showed class and determination sending out a stern warning to other teams that they mean business.

Captain Mickaelar Mendez says it was great to kickstart their campaign on a high especially when it's their first game together as a unit.

Mendez says it was also great to see the players gelling well together, getting their confidence high with that win and dusting the cobwebs off.

She says the team stuck to their game plan and that was to maintain the discipline in their defence and just play their sets well which helped them secure the win.

Mendez says the win is not yet settling for them as they have tougher games lined up for them and they are looking forward to another huge challenge against Guam today.

The Fiji women’s basketball will play Guam at 12:15pm today in their second pool match.
