Fiji Media for Excellence Awards returns after 17 years

The Fiji Media Council and Fiji Media Association has announced the return of the prestigious Fiji Award for Excellence after a lapse of 17 years.

The FAME Awards was discontinued following the imposition of draconian censorship laws which limited media freedom.

Chairman of FAME Awards, Shane Hussein says there are 30 awards in eight different categories.

Hussein says the major ones include Radio, Print and TV Journalist of the Year and Fiji Media Hall of Fame.

He says after so many years, the Best Female and Male Commentator of the Year Award is also returning.

The Chairman says the entry eligibility period is for work done over the two years, from August 2023 till August this year.

The different categories include, Best Article, Best Feature, Best Show and Personality for English, Hindi and i-Taukei, Digital Media, Most Innovative Digital Team, Camera Work, Best News Report, Best Sports Report, Best Current Affairs Report, Best TV Spot/ Advertisement, Best Radio Advertisement, Best Print Day, Best Commentary, Best Coverage of i-Taukei Affairs, Best Sports Journalism, Young Journalist of the Year (under 25years), Scoop of the year, Best Coverage of a Major News, Business Journalism, News Photography, Sport Photography, Best Male and Female Commentator, Radio, Print and TV Journalist of the year, Hall of Fame and Journalist of the Year.

The award will be held on Saturday 29th of November in Suva.

Fiji Media Council General Secretary, Stanley Simpson won the FAME Journalist of the Year in 2007, while Communications Fiji Limited's News Director, Vijay Narayan was the recipient of the major award in 2008.
