The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s extended squad is wrapping up its off-season training camp at Uprising tomorrow, with the main focus being player and staff development ahead of the 2025/2026 HSBC World SVNS Series.
Team Manager Willie Baleinabuli says a key objective of the three-day camp was for all players and management to complete the Level 1 Sevens Coaching Certificate, ensuring players better understand coaching expectations heading into the new season.
Baleinabuli says this course gives players insight into what the coaches are looking for, and it sets the tone before they hit full pre-season.
He confirmed that the core squad from the previous 2024/2025 season remains largely unchanged, apart from new additions brought in towards the end of last season.
As the Skipper Cup kicks off this weekend, Baleinabuli says the coaching team will be actively scouting for talent in key positions.
Baleinabuli says players from the national 7s camp will also feature for their provincial sides during the Skipper Cup, and adds that they will continue to allow this participation during the off-season.
He says all players have recovered well from past injuries, except for Kavekini Tanivanuakula, who is still recovering from surgery and is expected to return by January.
The next short national 7s camp is scheduled for the end of August, and will be held in Suva.
