The youths of Bukuya Village in Ba were full of smiles after receiving their farming tools from the Minister for Youth and Sports Parveen Bala under the Ministry’s Youth Farm Initiative.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Bala says agriculture is a business that provides employment and entrepreneurial opportunities to youths.

He says even though 2021 has been a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have witnessed the commitment from youths who actively involved themselves in farming to support their family and communities.

He adds the Government has provided incentives for interested farmers and youth graduating with Agriculture-based qualifications from Fiji National University, as youth and agriculture are on their development agenda.

The Minister says people will need to identify and take ownership of the resources they own; and maximise the opportunities provided by the Government through its various Ministries.
