A family is thankful to be alive this afternoon after a freak road accident where a speeding truck overturned and crushed two vehicles at about 3pm today.

The 5 tonne truck driver was speeding along Ratu Dovi Road and could not negotiate the bend going into Nokonoko Road.

It then overturned and landed on a private car and taxi.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says that Police are investigating what led to the accident.

Naisoro also confirmed that no one was injured.

A grandmother, Inise Mainavukea who was in the private car with her husband, their 1 year old grandson and his nanny, says they are lucky to be alive however she says it is worrying to see speeding trucks on our roads.

She said that they quickly put her 1 year old grandson on the floor in the backseat while they all quickly moved to the left side of their car while the truck was falling on their vehicle.

The right side of the car where her husband was sitting got crushed by the truck.

The taxi driver was also at the scene.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro has also urged truck drivers to be cautious and considerate of other drivers and pedestrians on the road.
