SODELPA files complaint against People’s Alliance

SODELPA files complaint against People’s Alliance

Party’s General Secretary Lenaitasi Duru and People's Alliance Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka

SODELPA has lodged a complaint against the People’s Alliance regarding their compliance with Section 116 4C of the Electoral Act.

This has been confirmed by the Party’s General Secretary Lenaitasi Duru, who says this requires all the political parties and persons making promises in a campaign, especially when those promises require a financial undertaking.

Duru says they are required by law to explain how they are going to raise the money for such activities, and how the money will be distributed.

He says they have gone through the People's Alliance manifesto and they have found out that there are a lot of vague promises.

He claims the People's Alliance have included statements they feel require a financial undertaking and they have not complied with the law.

However the People's Alliance says the complaint against them by SODELPA on the reinstatement of the GCC and the abolishment of the soli ni yasana proves that SODELPA no longer works in the best interests of the iTaukei but for the benefit of the FijiFirst Party.

Party Leader Sitiveni Rabuka says SODELPA has shown the world that not only is the SODELPA President aligned with the FFP and Voreqe Bainimarama, but SODELPA through their General Secretary as an authorised officer of the party is also now working behind the scene to fix the marriage.

Rabuka claims SODELPA is hiding their relationship and not coming out of the closet.

He adds that he cannot see any other motive behind the SODELPA complaint on two issues that all iTaukei hold dear at heart except those in FFP and now SODELPA - which are the GCC and the double taxation in paying soli ni yasana.

The People's Alliance Leader says he saw in their manifesto that SODELPA will reinstate the GCC but it seems like their priorities have changed as soon as their President changed his t-shirt.

Rabuka says it is now left to the People’s Alliance and NFP coalition to stay the course and fight the good fight for the iTaukei and if they think that this complaint will deter them then SODELPA and FFP have clearly misjudged them and they will never change their position to appease anyone.

He further says they have assessed the SODELPA complaint and see no merit in it and their team has combed it with a fine-tooth comb and will respond to the SOE within the timeframe given which is 48 hours that expires 12am Sunday.

While responding to Rabuka’s statement, Duru says it is childish and stupid and questions the People's Alliance as to how they come to such a conclusion.
