Dubai 7s: Fijiana falls short in final pool match losing 29-21 to NZ

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side fell short in their final pool match after losing 29-21 to New Zealand.

Fiji scored the first try of the game through Ad Vani Buleki with a successful conversion to lead 7-0 before NZ replied with an uncoverted try through Jazmine Felix Hotham to trail 7-5.

Stacey Waaka scored NZ's second try at the stroke of halftime with a successful conversion to take a 12-7 lead at the break.

Fiji came back in the second half strong scoring another converted try through Reapi Uluinasau to lead 14-12.

Alena Saili scored a try in the 9th minute to help NZ regain the lead before Waaka scored her second try to extend their lead to 24-14 with a try in the 11th minute.

Laisani Moceisawana scored a converted try in the 12th minute to help Fiji close the gap to 24-21.

Mahina Paul sealed the win for NZ in the final minute with an unconverted try.

The Fijiana side has now made it through to the quarter finals and their opponent is yet to be confirmed.

The Women's Cup quarter finals will kick off at 5.30pm today, the semi finals will be at 9.20pm today and the final will be at 3.13am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Men's National 7s side will play Great Britain at 3.50am in their last pool match today.

The Men's cup quarter finals will begin at 6.58pm tomorrow, the cup semi finals will kick off at 10.04pm tomorrow and the final will be at 3.53am Monday.
