The French side started well scoring the first try in the 2nd minute through Stephen Parez Edo with the conversion missing to take a 5-0 lead.

Fiji found their feet and came back stronger scoring three converted tries to captain Joseva Talacolo, Terio Veilawa and Pilipo Bukayaro to take a 21-5 lead which was the score at halftime.
