New Zealand’s Director-General of Health, Dr Ashley Bloomfield is looking forward to a much needed break from all his COVID-19 response after seeing a cheeky video invite from Tourism Fiji.

Dr Bloomfield has been at the forefront of New Zealand’s COVID-19 response since the beginning but is about to step down from his role.

Tourism Fiji released a video invite offering him and his family a chance to get away for a bit with an island holiday.

Dr Bloomfield says it was a "wonderful and irresistible offer" from Tourism Fiji.

He adds the last two years have definitely been busy and he’s looking forward to having a bit of time to reacquaint himself with his Pacific whānau.

Tourism Fiji's New Zealand Regional Director, Sonya Lawson says it was clear that Dr Bloomfield had given many dedicated years of service to the NZ public and was due a "well-deserved" holiday.

Tourism Fiji say that could include sailing adventures, snorkelling, tree-top adventures and a casual game of rugby with the locals.
