Deployment of food rations, supplies and officials to affected islands starts today

Deployment of food rations, supplies and officials to affected islands will start today.

The National Disaster Management Office says the MV Spirit of Harmony will cover South of Kadavu distributing supplies and food rations. Officials will conduct detailed damage assessments while MV Altruism will cover Eastern Kadavu.

The NDMO say loading is taking place at the Natovi Jetty and this to supply food rations and other immediate relief supplies to the affected areas in Lau.

They say MV Ohana will carry officials, relief items and supplies to the Southern Lau which includes Ono-I-Lau, Vatoa, Ogea, Fulaga and Kabara.

MV Spirit of Love will also depart today and will cover Yasayasa Moala including Matuku, Totoya and Moala.

All these boats are expected to arrive at their destinations tomorrow where officers have been advised to prioritize distributing food and relief items to those affected.

Government vessel, Vatulawa which is already berthed in Lautoka will carry cargo to Yasawa and Mamanuca Group while the MV Seabus will carry officials who will conduct detailed damage assessments.

The NDMO also confirms that MV Sigavou will cover Vatulele, Beqa and Yanuca and will leave tomorrow.

The Health Ministry has confirmed that all officers who are travelling to the islands have already been screened by them.
