New U.S Ambassador to Fiji, and Ambassador Designate to Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu, Marie Damour

New U.S Ambassador to Fiji, and Ambassador Designate to Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu, Marie Damour has stressed the importance of transparency and security in her first official media engagement today.

After presenting her credentials to President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Damour says that the media plays an important role in promoting and protecting democracy.

She adds that it is a role that the US Embassy is proud to support by holding media availability and they want to facilitate media access to top U.S officials and transparently present their positions and their actions on matters that affect Pacific Island nations.

Damour stressed that the U.S worked with over 190 countries to advance global cooperation on emissions reduction on climate finance and other issues of direct concern to Fiji in the Pacific island region.

Damour adds that the United States is also Fiji’s partner in defense and security and they understand the difficulty of protecting territorial integrity in areas that extends far into the Pacific Ocean.

She further stated that the Biden Harris administration is committed to being an active and engaged partner in the Pacific.
