Severe thunderstorm warning in force for western Viti Levu

Severe thunderstorm warning in force for western Viti Levu

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall is now in force for the western half of Viti Levu, from Sigatoka through Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Tavua, including the interior of Ba and Nadroga/Navosa.

The Nadi Weather Office says a moist easterly wind flow continues to prevail over the country.

They say daytime heating has triggered thunderstorm activity, which is expected to intensify into severe thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorms are likely over the next few hours and may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

The Weather Office says thunderstorm activity with heavy rain and intense lightning is expected until late afternoon or evening.

Due to the hit-and-miss nature of thunderstorms, not all areas will be affected, and impacts may vary from place to place.

People are strongly advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, avoid walking, cycling, or driving through floodwaters, unplug computers and electrical appliances, and stay indoors away from windows. Parents are also advised to ensure children remain inside.
