Daku Resort in Savusavu is seeing 85% occupancy rate in the weekends after the introduction of $1 weekend deals and are now planning for local borders to open and travel to Vanua Levu to normalise.

Resort Manager, Aubrey Whippy says the deal started for the residents in the North and was done to entice locals to get out and enjoy the weekend at a resort.

The Resort Manager says when COVID started, they saw the numbers decline and like all other properties, they had to make the decision to either stay open or to close.

He says they decided to stay open with 5 staff that lived and maintained the property.

Whippy says a total of 13 staff are working now and they are calling in other staff when the need arises.

He has highlighted that all 26 staff are now fully vaccinated.

Whippy says they are taking one day at a time and are keeping their heads above water.

He adds the tourism industry has suffered the most and they want people to get vaccinated so that tourism workers can go back to work.

The 3 star Daku Resort is located 5 minutes outside of Savusavu Town and has 20 units in total.

Stay on the first night costs $1, $140 for the second night and $99 for the third night.
