The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be seeking help from the Legal Aid Commission in locating the child of an alleged rape victim.

State Lawyer, Sadaf Shameem today told High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar that the complainant who is also a child had gotten pregnant after the alleged incidents.

The accused in the case is the stepfather of the victim and he is charged with two counts of rape and one count of attempted rape.

Shameem told the court that after birth, the child was put up for adoption which was facilitated by Legal Aid.

She informed the court that they want to corroborate the DNA.

Justice Goundar has indicated that the trial will go ahead even if the State fails to locate the child.

The trial will begin on the 30th of June.

The man’s bail has been extended.
