Court remands father and daughter who were allegedly found with meth and marijuana

66-year-old businessman Mahen Chand Maharaj and his daughter, 34-year-old Zoe Maharaj Moore who were allegedly found with methamphetamine and marijuana have been remanded by the Sigatoka Magistrates Court.

The two fronted court yesterday and are jointly charged with two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of breach of bail conditions.

Mahen Maharaj is also charged with one count of bribery.

The two have been remanded at the Natabua Corrections Centre until the 4th of next month.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa says the two were intercepted by officers from the Western Division Narcotics Bureau last Friday morning near the Korolevu Community Post.

SSP Vaisewa says when officers searched their vehicle, they discovered a clear bag containing methamphetamine as well as $8,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime and several bullets of marijuana wrapped in foil.
