Councils have grown and developed together for the past decade - Nalumisa

Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Nalumisa

We have grown together as councils and we have developed for the past decade and we have come to see the fruition of embracing the importance of having good visions for our respective councils.

This was highlighted by Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Nalumisa while officiating at the Greater Suva Municipal Council Diwali Function today.

Nalumisa says without those visions and objectives, they would have not been able to be where they are today.

He says we have seen improvements in all aspects of development for the councils, especially the Suva City Council.

Nalumisa acknowledged also the Suva City Council for hosting the recent urban and housing forum that was held earlier this year and it was indeed a very significant milestone achievement for the council.

He further reiterated that we are so blessed that we live in a multicultural and multiracial country which is one of our main strengths.

While speaking about the importance of Diwali celebrations, Nalumisa says it is events like this that actually bring people, cultures and races together and it also breaks barriers.

He says we can celebrate Diwali year after year, but if we don’t embrace, don’t share or do not feel the importance of this auspicious occasion, then we have failed in our duties as not only citizens of this country but also as believers of the importance of celebrating it.

The Minister says Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

He says it is the brightest and most significant festival and the lights signify that it is time to destroy evil desires and thoughts that we might have.
