Attorney General Siromi Turaga is greeted by a senior Corrections officer during his tour of the facilities in February

Attorney General Siromi Turaga is shocked to find out the current salary caps of the Fiji Corrections Service officers.

During his tour of the Nasinu Corrections facility, Turaga was concerned about the salaries of these officers saying it has been shocking and unfair.

He says the former Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum who was also the former Minister of Finance, could not even look after his own staff for the last 10 years.

Turaga asks what was he doing over this period of time.

He says a responsible Minister would look after their own staff first and it was not evident with the former AG.

He adds these prison officers work in a depressing environment and it it is something that needs to be considered.

Meanwhile, he was impressed with how well organized the Nasinu facility was and commended all the officers and the superiors for their hard work.

He says the Fiji Corrections Service from the 90’s and the early 2000’s is a far-cry from what it is today.
