Continuous downpour triggers flooding in Ba Town and surrounding areas

Ba Town and its surrounding areas, including Toge Balevuto, Moto, and Babriban Village are facing severe flooding following a night of non-stop rain.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Balevuto resident Nilesh Kisun says the situation is critical as the main bridge crossing has become impassable, locking residents out of work and impacting market vendors drastically.

Kisun says flooding has left residents unable to access grocery stores and hospitals, though the local water supply remains clean and operational.

He says bus services has been interrupted.

Kisun with all roads closed and little chance for immediate relief, residents are left fearing for their health, livelihood, and access to basic services.

He urges local authorities to assess the situation and implement necessary rescue measures to support the affected communities in Ba.

Ba Town Council Acting CEO, Vinal Prasad, says the Market Sub-division is flooded and inaccessible.

He explains that floodwaters have entered Ba Town due to the rising water level in Elevuka Creek, causing the Bus Stand and Municipal Market to be underwater

Drivers are advised to avoid these areas and seek alternative routes.
