Fiji’s efforts to contain COVID-19 has been boosted as China’s central government and Guangdong provincial government has purchased two batches of medical supplies and personal protective equipment for Fiji worth $500,000.

The Chinese Embassy in Fiji has stated that China fully understand the challenges facing Fiji and are ready to provide support and assistance to help Fiji fight COVID-19.

They say the Embassy is working closely with relevant departments on the shipment and trying to do their best to expedite the arrival of these supplies.

The Chinese Embassy says China and Fiji are comprehensive strategic partners and they will continue to provide anti-pandemic supplies.

They say China is ready to share best anti-pandemic practices and send special medical team to combat the virus if needed.

The Chinese government has urgently launched a China-Pacific Island Countries Anti-epidemic Cooperation Fund, organized video conferences to share its experience and provided guidelines on COVID-19 prevention and control.

They said the Chinese central and local governments, enterprises, non-governmental institutions have taken action and donated supplies such as testing kits, ventilators and personal protective equipment to Fiji.
