Filipo Bukayaro after scooping the Player of the Tournament at the Marist 7s

Fiji Airways men’s national 7s team newcomer Filipo Bukayaro is aiming to grow in the international 7s arena after being named in the travelling squad for the Singapore 7s this weekend.

He says his aim everyday is to improve his game and grow in the role that is given to him.

The 23-year-old says he is thankful for the support and prayers from his family that enabled him to reach where he is today.

The former Ratu Kadavulevu School student is one of the four players making their international 7s debut at the Singapore 7s.

He played for the Army 7s team in the Fun Flavour Super 7s Series this year, earning him a place in the national 7s extended squad.

The Cakaudrove man was named in the travelling team to the Malaga and Seville 7s, however, due to COVID-19, they were not able to attend the competition.

He was named the Best player of the final during the 46th Fiji Marist 7s last month.

Former Men’s 7s coach Saiasi Fuli had praised the inclusion of Bukayaro in the extended squad, saying in the long term is a good replacement for Jerry Tuwai and he has proven himself to be in the travelling squad.

Tevita Daugunu will captain the national side to the Singapore 7s where they will meet Ireland in their first match on Saturday at 2.22pm.

They will then face France at 5.06pm Saturday in their second match and play Japan at 8.22pm Saturday in their final pool match.
