The battle for top spot in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific points table does not get a lot better as the Hurricanes and the Blues go head-to-head this afternoon in round 12 of the competition.

The two teams both have a 9-1 record and just one competition point separating them with the Canes at the top with 42 points and the Blues in second place with 41 points.

Blues fullback Zarn Sullivan says it is a top-of-the-table clash and he knows the team will be up for the occasion and wanting to right a few wrongs from when they lost to them in Wellington earlier this season.

Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw says this is an exciting opportunity for them to be able to take on a top side at their home and put their best foot forward.

Laidlaw says his team showed a level of maturity last week to bounce back and put out a strong performance for their fans.

He says they haven’t won in Auckland since 2019, so they know that there is a massive challenge ahead of the side.

The two sides have met 40 times with the Blues winning 20 and the Hurricanes winning 19 and a draw.

The Blues will host the Hurricanes at 4.35pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will take on the Force at 11.55 tonight.

In other games tonight, the Highlanders will take on the Crusaders at 7.05 and the Waratahs will host the Brumbies at 9.35.

In the matches played last night, the Chiefs thrashed Moana Pasifika 43-7 and the Reds overcame the Rebels 26-22.
