Basiyalo learned the values of becoming a better rugby player when he joined the Fiji 7s

Joining the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s squad has taught new squad member Isikeli Basiyalo some values for becoming a better rugby player including hard work, patience and resilience.

Now, being part of the 13-member squad for the HSBC Hong Kong 7s this weekend, Basiyalo believes following these values is starting to pay off.

While talking about his transition from the Fijian Drua Development Squad into the Fiji 7s squad, the 20-year-old says there was not much difference but the level of discipline in the Fiji 7s squad is much greater.

He says there was a lot of competition in the squad, especially in his position, but he believes that hard work beats talent and that is what he tries to focus on every time.

The Volivoli, Sigatoka, Nadroga man will be making his international 7s debut this weekend in Hong Kong.

Fiji will take on the USA at 4,48pm Friday in their first pool match, they will then take on Ireland at 7.58pm Friday before taking on Argentina at 4.11pm Saturday in their last pool match.

The cup quarter finals will kick off at 9.51pm Saturday, the cup semi finals will start at 7pm Sunday and the cup final will kick off at 11.46pm Sunday. Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will take on Ireland at 4.25pm Friday in their first pool match, they will then take on France at 7.35pm Friday before playing Great Britain at 3.25pm Saturday in their last pool match. The women’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 9.01pm Saturday, the semi finals will start at 6.14pm Sunday and the cup final will kick off at 11.10pm Sunday.
