Residents of Nadrau Village in Tavua and nearby communities can now consistently access immunisation services after maintenance works and the installation of a solar power system at the Nadrau Nursing Station by the staff of Bank of South Pacific’s Tavua Branch.

BSP Area Manager West and North Viliame Varasikete says working in consultation with the Divisional Health Office, they learnt that the Nadrau Nursing Station had been forced to stop immunisation services due to power disruptions.

Varasikete says installing a solar power solution would put an end to this and boost people’s access to immunisation services safeguarding them and their families.

He says during power outages, parents would have to pay $20 return fare to take their babies to the nearest health facility to get immunised.

Senior Divisional Medical Officer in Tavua, Dr Oliwafemi Ojo says they had been hoping for this upgrade for some time and were delighted when BSP stepped up to assist.

Dr Ojo says the private-public partnerships such as this helps the Ministry of Health as it provides a critical service to the whole of Fiji and moving to clean energy is necessary as we face the brunt of climate change.
