Hard work, determination and perseverance have paid off for Ayush Shukla after he scored 494/500 in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination.

According to Rishikul Primary School, he is the national topper as per the provisional results.

Shukla says he was truly surprised and proud of himself when he first saw his marks because the exam was not easy, however, he was content with his achievement.

The 13-year-old says he had to work hard for one year to achieve the results as he faced many challenges along the way, such as not understanding many concepts and not being sure where to start with his studies with all the information he had.

He says his teachers played a vital role in clearing his doubts and explaining the concepts which made it easier for him to study for his exam.

Shukla is planning to become a science student as he wants to become a computer engineer or software engineer because he has always been interested in how computers operate and how they can be further developed.

The 13-year-old scored 100 marks in Health Science, 99 in Mathematics and Basic Science, 98 in Hindi and English and 97 in Social Science.

Shukla further says that his parents have been his biggest pillar of strength, especially during his exams.

He adds that he was offered a place at Yat Secondary School and Jai Narayan College however, he chose Jai Narayan College.
