A targeted approach needs to be taken if there are going to be any policy measures whether in form of price regulations or any fiscal policy that the government comes up with in order to solve the issues of price escalations in the country.

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission says it is important that the vulnerable in the community are protected.

When asked by fijivillage News on what solutions they have come up with to deal with price escalation issues, FCCC Chief Executive Officer Joel Abraham says they are conducting studies on what items are being demanded where prices are high so that consumers get the best value for money.

Abraham says they are having generic discussions as well and also conducting surveys on pricing practices on items that have been brought to their attention that have escalated.

He adds that it is essential to contextualise the issues of cost of living as well as it is increasing everywhere.

Abraham says they are working closely with the government to ensure that consumers do not get disadvantaged.

He also says they want to hear more from the consumers on issues of this matter.
