A mobile medical team from Suva is currently working with the medical staff from Korovou Hospital and Nayavu Health Centre in identifying serious COVID-19 cases in the Tailevu Province as there are concerns following a spike in the number of cases in the province.

CWM Hospital Head of Surgical Department, Doctor Semesa Matanaicake says there are currently 529 active cases in Tailevu and they have also recorded 19 deaths which is very worrying.

Doctor Matanaicake says they have noticed that even with the containment zones, there are still cases coming up from the outer borders and that is what they are also trying to determine.

He says they have four teams that are out in the field conducting testing and also compiling data.

Doctor Matanaicake says they will be providing a report in the next two to three days on the situation in Tailevu.

He says they are geared up in identifying symptomatic and serious cases so that they are taken to the appropriate medical facilities for care.

He says the Ministry is working closely with FEMAT who have been extracting serious cases to either the CWM Hospital or the FEMAT Gym. Doctor Matanaicake says they are trying to get to the harder to reach areas and creating a plan which will need constant surveillance in the next couple of months.
