99.4% teachers are fully vaccinated - Kumar

The Ministry of Education confirms 99.4% teachers are now fully vaccinated.

Eleven teachers are yet to receive their second jab, one has been granted exemption by the Permanent Secretary for Health, and 13 teachers are awaiting confirmation for exemption.

The Ministry terminated 130 teachers who did not receive their first jab by August 15th, which was the condition under the “No Jab No Job” policy.

It says these teachers had written to the Ministry expressing their decision not to get vaccinated and they have been replaced.

Minister for Education Premila Kumar says it reassures them that a large number of teachers have been fully vaccinated and that classrooms will have fully vaccinated teachers when schools start.

Kumar says they are also recruiting teachers to ensure all schools are fully staffed when classes resume.

She says teachers have also played a pivotal role in encouraging and motivating eligible students to get vaccinated and they are happy about the result.
