Sexual offences committed against a minor are a serious concern for the country, and according to the monthly statistics provided by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, there were 92 victims of rape who were under 18 as of 31st July this year.

According to the DPP, the highest reported number was 21 in May, followed by 19 in February and 15 in April.

In January this year, there were 10 victims under the age of 18 years, 6 in March, 9 in June and 12 last month.

Another worrying trend occurring now is where the victim and the accused are related to one another.

According to the DPP statistics, there were 69 incidents that occurred from January to July this year where the victim and the accused are related to one another.

There were 5 incidents in January, and 19 incidents in February, while it dropped to 11 in March.

The number rose to 16 in April and increased further to 21 in May.

In the last two months, there were 16 incidents where the accused and the victim were related to one another.
