896 females and 839 males graduate from FNU

Education is the most important and smartest investment of all because education means achieving a world of peace, justice, freedom and equality for all.

This has been highlighted by the Minister of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar who was the Chief Guest at Fiji National University’s graduation ceremony for the College of Humanities and Education and College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

896 females and 839 males graduated yesterday.

Akbar adds a total of 1700 new graduates will join the workforce and contribute to various skills, expertise and knowledge in their respective fields.

She says each year over half the total of scholarships, loans and all TVET students supported by the government go to FNU and over the past five years they have supported 38,748 students studying at FNU investing approximately $170 million.

The Minister also says this is our National University and this is our pride.

She adds they want to ensure that they continue to support its growth and stature to become the leading university in our region.

She says she strongly believes that having an educated society will contribute greater to the economic and social development of the nation.

Akbar adds this investment in Fijians and the children is for the benefit of a vibrant Fiji today and even a more vibrant tomorrow.

She says the Fijian government's commitment to education is demonstrated in its annual commitment of about 20% of its total budget to education.
