Pearl Mayvir, a 74-year-old former student of Suva Grammar School

Pearl Mayvir, a 74-year-old former student of Suva Grammar School was happy to be part of the school’s Sapphire Celebration marking its 65th anniversary.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Mayvir who lives at Ambala Place in Nasinu says she still recalls her first day at Grammar when she was 5 years old.

She shared that it was a scary experience since everything was new but she knew she needed to adapt and learn.

She says that back in those days, they had British teachers who came to teach at the school, which helped them greatly before they went out into the working field.

The 74-year-old says she was a student at Grammar from 1960 to 1967.

She adds that being part of today’s celebration was an emotional moment for her, as she was able to see the changes that have taken place in the school, and she hopes to take a tour around the school compound.

The celebration continues today with the Fun Fair and the 2010 decade hosting the Rumble in the Jungle event at Vodafone Arena’s Hall A, while the final celebration, the Grand Ball, will be held tomorrow at the Vodafone Arena.
