6 party leaders reiterate call for recount of all 2022 election results

Saneem says there may be some issues in provisional results but the final results will be based on the actual protocol of results

Calls continue to be made by the People’s Alliance, SODELPA, National Federation Party, Fiji Labour Party, Unity Fiji and We Unite Fiji for a full recount of the 2022 general elections based on the issues that arose on Wednesday night regarding the provisional results.

The party leaders say while they understand that all votes were counted manually at the polling stations around the country, the fact that errors were posted up on the FEO app, raises the question on whether the results are accurate.

When questioned on the provisional results, Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says there may be some issues however he says the final results will be based on the actual protocol of results from the polling stations around the country.

When asked on whether an independent audit was done for the errors and glitch on the FEO app on Wednesday night, Saneem told us that they do not have time for an independent audit as they are in the middle of announcing results.

Saneem has also questioned if the political parties have a legal basis to demand for a recount of all the votes.

Please note that the National Count Centre at the Vodafone Arena only counts postal and pre-poll votes. The Fijian Elections Office says election day ballots are counted on election day at each polling station as soon as polling ends, and these results are posted outside the polling station for everyone to see.

The FEO says there is no recount of election day ballots at the National Count Centre.
