4 police officers are among the 5 people charged so far this year by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for alleged cases of bribery.
According to a statement from FICAC a Special Constable Rohinesh Ranjan Prasad appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court for three counts of bribery last month.
The alleged bribery offences were to have taken place in Nadi between the 20th and 22nd January 2014.
In the Rakiraki Magistrates Court yesterday a Sheik Mohammed Jalal Khan appeared for an alleged bribery offence that took place on Tuesday in Tavua.
In the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday FICAC laid charges against two Police Officers for three counts of alleged bribery offences.
Sanita Laqenisiga and Ilisoni Tadau were each charged with one count of alleged bribery offences and were both charged together for another count of bribery that is alleged to have taken place in Suva last week Wednesday.
In light of the above, the Commission will work closely with the Fiji Police Force to address these concerns and perhaps conduct an Ethics and Values and Corruption Prevention and Risk Reduction Assessment to ascertain the gaps in the current systems and mechanisms.
