Around 80 elderly people are expected to be celebrated this Saturday during the “Golden Blessings Day” event in Caubati, aimed at recognising and honouring senior citizens in the community.

Event organiser Awadh Narayan Sharma says their aim is to make the elderly feel accepted and create a memorable day for them filled with fun.

Sharma is also urging families and the wider community to respect and care for elderly people, saying they should not feel neglected or forgotten.

He says the programme was initiated after noticing that older people in the Caubati community had missed out on similar celebrations held in other areas in previous years.

He further says that they want to ensure senior citizens feel valued and accepted by society.

Sharma says the event has been organised in association with the Nasinu Older Persons Association and will bring together several stakeholders to provide services and support for senior citizens.

He says health checks, including blood pressure, sugar levels, vision screenings and other medical assessments, will be available.

He adds that representatives from Valelevu Health Centre, Social Welfare, Empower Pacific, the Public Trustee’s Office and the Fiji Police Force are expected to be part of the programme.
