Omegle video featuring prisoners and two women triggers Fiji Corrections investigation

The prisoners who used a mobile phone inside the corrections facility in Lautoka and interacted with two women during an Omegle video are being investigated by the Fiji Corrections Service.

The video showed the inmates laughing and joking before quickly ending the livestream and saying goodbye to fellow TikTok users as Corrections officers approached to carry out checks.

The Fiji Corrections Service told fijivillage News today that the prisoners involved have been dealt with through the institution’s internal disciplinary process.

They say that while some viewers may find the incident amusing, the public should understand that inmates often seek access to mobile phones to maintain contact with people outside prison, including for the monitoring or planning of illegal activities that could endanger innocent members of the public.

Fiji Corrections continues to urge the public not to assist inmates by supplying contraband items, as such actions undermine rehabilitation efforts within the Corrections system.
