It was a joyous occasion for the people of Vunikawakawa in Labasa after Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commissioned the $4 million Vunikawakawa Bridge in Labasa yesterday.

Luisa Mereani expressed her elation, stating that their challenges were not new as their elders faced the same thing.

The new bridge has renewed their faith in the government, and the announcement by Rabuka that their road will be fixed soon was music to their ears.

In his address, Rabuka requested the younger generation not become complacent now that access is improved, but let the hardship faced by their elders be their motivation to achieve greater things.

However, he also warned against using the bridge as a conduit for illegal activities and urged the villagers to be mindful of the detrimental effect of drugs in their community.
