A 35-year-old farmer from Wainunu, Bua is in police custody for his involvement in the alleged sale of illicit drugs following a raid at the Salia Jetty in Taveuni.

Narcotics officers from Labasa and Savusavu raided the man after a tip off.

Police are yet to confirm the quantity.

Chief Operations Officer ACP, Abdul Khan says the man tried to flee the scene but was apprehended by officers.

ACP Khan has acknowledged the support of the public in sharing information that led to the successful operation where drugs intended to be sold were intercepted, saving innocent lives from the harmful impacts of illicit drugs.

He says all tips received are pursued, and he hopes members of the public will understand just how important and potentially life saving the act of sharing information can be.

ACP Khan is calling on members of the public to utilise the anonymous reporting lines available such as the crime-stoppers on 919 or 917.

He is assuring the public that all information will be kept confidential, and any act by a police officer that breaches the trust of those providing information will be dealt with through the Fiji Police's internal disciplinary processes.
