Good news for the 156 women who have graduated today from the Academy for Women as they are now able to start their business without relying on anyone else.

While speaking at the event, Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya says women's economic empowerment is one of the areas that the Coalition Government is focusing on.

Tabuya says this program provides women entrepreneurs with the skills, resources and networks needed to start and grow successful business ventures.

She says next week, the Ministry will be tabling Fiji's Women's Economic Empowerment National Action Plan to the Cabinet.

She adds this plan will create a field to support women who have the passion to venture into the entrepreneurial arena.

The U. S. Ambassador to Fiji, Marie Damour says when women are empowered to earn their own income, they are more likely to reinvest those earnings in their businesses and their families.

Damour says the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent identifies economic development as one of its key thematic areas.

She says when women do better, everyone else does better.
