A 15-year-old student appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court this afternoon for allegedly assaulting a fellow student on the 9th of this month.

He is charged with assault occasioning grevious bodily harm.

Deputy Divisional Police Commander Western Acting Superintendent of Police Mohammed Harif appeared for the prosecution and informed the court that the juvenile assaulted another student at the Nadi Bus Stand.

Acting SP Harif informed the court that the victim received serious injuries and he is still recovering subject to further medical attention.

He objected for bail on the grounds that it's a case of interest and granting bail will not serve the public interest.

He also told the court that the assault video had gone viral.

Acting SP Harif further informed the court that further investigations will continue, and the likely chances of the juvenile interfering with witnesses is high.

Magistrate Shelyn Kiran granted the bail to the juvenile with conditions which include that he surrender his passport, a stop departure is issued, not to change his address, not to interfere with witnesses, not to re-offend a $500 bail with 2 sureties.

The matter is adjourned to the 13th of March.
