1 year-old girl drowns in river a few metres away from her home

A 1-year-old child has drowned in the Koroboya River a few metres away from her home.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Iakobo Vaisewa says she was found floating in the river by a relative.

SSP Vaisewa says she was rushed to the Ba Aspen Hospital where she was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are investigating the incident.

Police are again calling on parents and guardians to please monitor and closely supervise their children.

36 people have drowned so far this year compared to 40 in the same period last year.
