Defence Minister Pio Tikoduadua has commended the Republic of Fiji Military Forces for upholding democracy and respecting the outcome of the 2022 general elections.

While speaking to members during the NFP Convention at the Civic Centre in Labasa, Tikoduadua says this was one of the Force's significant achievements.

He says despite the challenges the country faced, they recognized that the RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, and the Force as a whole, have acknowledged the will of the people through the ballot box.

The Minister says they have stood tall, especially considering the threats they faced in 2022 and 2023.

Tikoduadua highlighted that the National Security Strategy outlined how the RFMF sees itself in the future and its role in a democratic Fiji.

He says this includes the respect for civilian leadership and democratic processes.

Tikoduadua says rebuilding trust was a big challenge for the RFMF.

He says they have clearly articulated and demonstrated their commitment through the NSS, and this is something we should all support going forward.

He also says national security must be viewed as a collective responsibility, and we need to strengthen our unity moving forward.

He adds that this is not a one-time effort, and we all need to work together.
