Another 500 vulnerable families who have been impacted by COVID-19 have received vegetables from the Foundation for Rural Integrated Enterprises Development or FRIEND this week.

The NGO says widows, sick people, single mothers in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka received vegetables.

They say this has been made possible through the support of UN Women Markets for Change Program.

FRIEND CEO, Sashi Kiran had earlier said they will be distributing vegetables to the needy families for about 5 weeks.

She says they have been doing their own assessments of vulnerable families and have been doing house visits.

Kiran adds it is heartbreaking to see the extent to which people are struggling.

She adds they have also been doing assessments for an innovation fund and are trying to assist people to start micro-businesses.
