A 61-year-old man from Koronubu in Ba has passed away following an accident close to midnight last night along Queens Road near Malolo in Nadi.
Police say the man was a passenger in a car driven by a 48-year-old farmer from Toge in Ba, which was stopped during a traffic operation after it was found to be speeding in a 60km/hour zone.
They say while traffic officers were processing the 48-year-old driver, the victim got off the vehicle and, while crossing the road to where the Police Traffic Officers were, was allegedly hit by an unknown vehicle.
Due to the impact, the man landed in the opposite lane, where he was hit by another vehicle.
Police say the victim was rushed to the Nadi Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are searching for the owner of the first vehicle as investigations continue.
