110 people were arrested for breaching the curfew from 8 o'clock last night to 5 o'clock this morning while 24 people were arrested for breaching social gathering restrictions.

Police say there 49 arrests in the Western Division, 25 in the Southern Division and 31 in the Eastern Division, 3 in the Central Division and 2 arrests in the Northern Division for curfew breaches.

The twenty-four people arrested for social gatherings were found drinking kava and holding drinking parties.

Eight people were arrested at Naivuruvuru Village after they were found drinking kava together.

Other arrests made for breaching social gatherings include 4 in Nadi, 5 in Navua and 7 in Valelevu.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says those people who are breaching the nationwide curfew and social restrictions announced by the Prime Minister need to understand that they are not only breaking the law but are risking the lives of others by possibly spreading the COVID-19 virus.

Qiliho says this is the reality of the situation that we are in as a nation, and everyone must understand that this is not an ordinary curfew-like others previously enforced, as one person's failure to respect and adhere to the nationwide curfew is now a matter of life and death.

He has also acknowledged the support of the Turaga ni Koro's and members of the public who have been providing information.

Qiliho says to cater for the increasing number of arrests, the Police Special Response Unit's drill shed has now been converted into a temporary holding cell.
