Australian, John Nikolic accused of importing drugs into the country had told his wife that a Colombian national had put something in their yacht because Nikolic owed some bad people money after Fiji Revenue and Customs Service officers found drugs on board their yacht at Denarau Marina on 22nd June last year.

This was revealed in court today by Prosecution witness, Senior Customs Service Officer Vasiti Toga who witnessed John Nikolic talking to his wife that day.

Toga also witnessed Nikolic tell his wife to look after their babies as he would be gone for some time.

The Senior Customs Service Officer also witnessed Nikolic tell his wife as she cried that this was the only way to pay those bad people back.

Toga also told the court that Nikolic had also asked for a piece of paper to write down his statement.

John and Yvette Nikolic are jointly charged with two counts of possession of illicit drugs, one count of possession of arms and ammunition without a licence and two counts of unlawful importation of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that the couple had imported 12.9 kilograms of cocaine and 34.4 grams of methamphetamine with an estimated value of between $20 million to $30 million.

It is also alleged that they failed to declare that they had in their possession two pistols with 112 rounds of live ammunition.
